Talk about blast from the past. I do not know why, but a portion of this book has stuck with me for over 50 years (!). I hadn't even remembered the title or author, but when I read the brief synopsis, I was pretty sure this was the right book. And it was. Juvenile fiction, it nevertheless is still readable and enjoyable this many years later.

A wonderful find for a great trip down memory lane.

The Forgotten Door Alexander Key 9780590431309 Books Reviews

This was a book from my childhood. I was lucky enough to post some details about it on goodreads and someone figured it out. It was as good as I remembered. I found myself back in my childhood again. I bought several more of his books that same day.
I am in my fifties and I remember clearly reading this book over and over as young girl. Since then I have purchased this book for each of my nieces and nephews when age appropriate. They all agreed that they enjoyed this book very much. I hope that anyone reading this review will consider this as a gift for their young family members.
The way to know that a book has reached out and touched you is to STILL remember that book 25+ years later after having read it.

I remembered this book but not the author and not quite the name. I finally found out the name of it when I was working in a small town library in Indiana and they had it. I read it and I was like AMAZING how this book and the author's message remained with me for all those years.

Not only was there a bit of science fiction (okay more than a bit), mystery, action and a message to the readers that STILL stands today!

I have this now so I can read it to my daughter and I hope that she takes from it what I did.

Jon stumbles through a Forgotten Door from the future. He is only a scared little boy who has what the present time people see as strange abilities. Instead of being friendly and helpful some of the people are distrustful or out to gain something. Only one family sees him for the frightened child he is and they are set to find a way to get him home.

There is no crazy action filled story here! This is a story with depth and a message. I am glad I can pass this story on to my daughter!
I probably first read this in second grade, and quickly read it again and again. It touched me deeply, and it became part of my moral foundation. I just read it again, from 3am to 6am, and it is still good. I enjoyed the read, but I'm especially glad that it has aged well. I am very curious why the ending is so quick, a brief flicker of pages.
This was one of my favorite books when I was in the 6th grade. One of a very few books I've kept from the era. Rereading it 40-ish years later, I see why I liked it then. Certainly its very dated, and very reminiscent of Escape to Witch Mountain (also by the same author), but it is nostalgic. I enjoyed reading it again.
My father read & loved this when he was young, and the two of us read it together when I was young. Now, perhaps twenty years later, I have had to give up almost all of my print books because of severe allergies, so I was very glad to discover this book on one of 's Daily Deals. I read it again that same day, and later re-read it to Dad. We both agree that we still enjoyed it immensely. Some books tend to feel dated - but I didn't see that issue when going back through this one. This is one of those books that still reminds me why I enjoy reading. I won't go into the story, which has doubtless been covered, but just had to weigh in on one of the better "kids" books out there...
Brought back memories of the first time I rent the book while I was in the 5th grade and the over the years I had thought of getting a copy of a reading it again I didn't do it until recently and I'm glad I did. As a young kid it was one of my favorite stories next to Rikki-Tikki-Tavi
